Static Cameras in IL2 Sturmovik

Static Cameras in IL2 Sturmovik

Static Cameras allow us to view the battlefield from its position, and give us the ability to zoom in and out.

For testing missions, taking screenshots, making movies or just enjoying the action, the humble, unmoving, static camera works wonders. The video shows how to set one up, in this case for mission testing.

You need to upgrade your Flash Player to version 8 to view this video! (Click here for the download)

How to place a static camera: Summary from the vid

It's nice 'n easy:

  • Select View | Object | Static Camera (scroll down).
  • Place a camera with Cntrl-Click.
  • Set its Height via the Static Camera tab that will now be showing.

Zoom in and out by Clicking & Dragging the mouse in and out.

Get creative: Realistic Recon Photos

Static Cameras can be used more than the standard mission testing, screenshots and movie making. Recon photos can be a huge immersion enhancer and are easy to make. That's the subject of a seperate tutorial, includng how to use some editing effects in Paint.NET, which is free.

That's it for this tutorial. Another skill in your bag of tricks. Mach's gut!

Hello,

Please anwer at: mavyalex@yahoo.com

Is it possible to record from the game using FRAPS and from a static camera but while flying all the way long through F1 view (cockpit) or F2 view?

So what we see at the screen is not what is actually recorded. What is recorded by FRAPS would be a static camera's view (set up suing the FMB)...

I've seen this video here that shows that it is possible since the author at the end says (well i've been too close..and crashed)..

http://www.il2-fullmissionbuilder.com/static-cameras.php

SECOND PROBLEM with Fraps: I can't record sound! Video is fine. I have FRAPS 3.0.3 and now FRAPS 3.1.0 fully registered. What's the problem?

Oh and last of all: I am looking for aan aerial base mod for aerial meetings showing crowds on the ground..I remember seeing that a few years ago on AAA but can't get the link back...Also enhanced bases on the grounbd (crowds, vehicles, etc).

Or was it a mod for Lock-on??

Is there a way to specify the static camera's initial look angle? i.e., when I place a static camera it looks east when the user first selects it, and I want it to look north.

Sry for being AWOL. Maybe these replies can help someone else:

Platounet: As far as I'm aware there's no way to get to a camera with one view. We hace to live with cycling thru Cntrl-F2.

Torenico: If you're getting just sea and fog 1) You haven't selected a player aircraft (though not necessary in the initial mission building stage) 2) You need to use the External Enemy View, Cntrl-F2.

Good luck guys.

Captain Marvel (sorry, missed your comment earlier), SlipKnot and anyone else who can't view vids on this site: Apologies for that. I haven't sorted out the prob and haven't come up with a better video solution.

The one way around this is to view them on YouTube. The quality of some of them is pretty poor though. The ones on site here should be pretty crisp.

I'll probably make all the vids available for download in QuickTime format, as I've done with the Manipulating Objects video. Until then YouTube is the place to head. Just do a search for "IL2 FMB".

S! Guys.

Hi MOJO,

You can access static camera views in-game by cycling through 'Next Enemy' view, Cntrl-F2 by default.

S!

If you place a static camera, can you use that view while the mission is actually being played? Or is it just used in the FMB. Thanks.
