IL2 Front Marker/Front Lines

Front Markers in the IL2 FMB

Front Markers are those cool little flags that create front lines in IL2. The following vid shows how easy they are to set up. The notes include the ultimate question: WHY?

How to set up Front Markers: Summary of the Vid

It's short and sweet. In the FMB:

  • Select View | Object | Front Marker (scroll down).
  • Cntrl-Click creates a front-marker flag. Front Marker Red is probably selected. Place a few red markers for the allied front line. Just the markers will show for now.
  • Select Front Marker Blue for the Axis markers and Cntrl-Click. The front line shows. Yeah.
  • Place more markers as necessary, both Blue and Red. You can move them around to change the shape of the front lines. Just Click 'n Drag.

And that's it.

Why place front markers?

There are some good reasons to place them in every mission you make:

  • They provide a visual representation of the front lines in the FMB, making object placement easier.
  • If you bail out over enemy territory there's a pretty good chance you'll end up behind barbed wire. If you're really lucky, you'll make it back. The Sturmi game engine will determine your fate. Feel'n lucky?
  • Even if you get back, you'll lose most of the points you accrued in the mission.

Remember that you can create more than one front line, for example a pocket of resistance behind enemy lines.

Another skill under your belt. Tres bien!

I'm just getting back into IL2 as best as possible so these replies are waaay to late, but will maybe help someone else:

Ayiaaaaa: When I mentioned that you'll end up 'behind barbed wire', I meant that you'll be captured and your mission or campaign will come to an abrupt end!

Hijoe: I wish I knew how the map engine calculates front lines too. The boys who have built the dynamic campaigns must have a clue or two about that.

Jeremy, thanks for the comments!

Frank, to set up flak you need to use place flak guns from the Artillery menu. If you've been having problems then chances are you've been using items from the Stationary Objects menu. Those ones can't fire!

All the best with it.

In Il2 FMB are some front markers of various colors like green, olive, navy, etc. How these front markers work?
