The IL2 Destruction Brush

The Destruction Brush allows mission builders to destroy 0-100% of buildings in any given urban area. It's quick and easy to use and since we're in a war zone, why not use it in every mission?

The Video

The video below explains how to use the Destruction Brush. A text summary is below it for later reference.

So how can I use it?

It's super easy. In the Full Mission Builder:

  • Zoom in on the town or city you want to apply destruction to.
  • Select View | Destruction.
  • Select a Brush Size and Destruction Level.
  • Click back on the map, then hold the F key down while moving the mouse. Voila - you're painting destruction.
  • Use the Brightness control to help see different levels of destruction on the map. A high setting works well.

I've heard about a bug. What's the issue?

Yep, there's a bug. Areas under Destroy Ground and Defence Ground Player Targets will always be intact. Work-arounds are:

  • Move the Targets and related objects out of the area of desired destruction.
  • Make the Targets smaller so they don't affect such a large area.
  • Resign yourself to 0% destruction under the Target areas.

Afterword

The Destruction Brush is one of the few tools in the FMB that is truly efficient and graceful to use. Applying a base destruction level over all towns and cities in the area of operations is so easy you might as well do it in every mission you make. It's a good habit to get into.

You should now be ready to apply the Destruction Brush in your IL2 missions. How about giving some feedback about this tutorial below, ask a question or point out something that was missed. Thx!
